Teaching
"Every lesson with Katherine gives me great pleasure and satisfaction, there is so much to learn and enjoy. I always come away from my lesson feeling inspired to play more and to the best of my ability."
— Derek,
Adult Piano Student
Collaborating
“The lifeblood of the chamber musician is collaboration. And that's why it's so astounding to hear a duo wax poetic about independence. Yet for violinist Charlene Kluegel and pianist Katherine Petersen, it's the secret ingredient behind the magic.”
— Benjamin Pomerance, "Free But Together: Two Artists Blend
Their Musical Voices as Duo FAE," Lake Champlain Weekly
PERFORMING
"Pianist Katherine Petersen captured the sense of wonder that drives Crumb’s “Eine Kleine Mitternacht Musik”
— Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune
INSPIRING
"Ms. Petersen adapts to their personalities to connect with and motivate both of them. She has a knack for complimenting each of them in detail on how they have improved each week."
— Steve, Father of two young piano students
about Katherine
Katherine began her career as a pianist young, giving her first full length solo performance at the age of 12, and making her Carnegie Hall debut after winning the CMFoNE (Chamber Music Foundation of New England) competition at age 16. Her performances as soloist and chamber musician have been described as having “captured the sense of wonder” (Chicago Tribune), and are equally matched with “great technical skill” (New York Classical Review.) Katherine has a passion for Chamber Music and thus has collaborated with groups such as Fifth House Ensemble, and also formed her own ensemble called Duo FAE. Through these outlets she has championed the works of living composers and seeks to increase the presence of contemporary works in modern chamber music performance.
